Now I’m in control, not the cigarettes

What is SmokeFade?

Smokefade is a ‘warm turkey’ approach designed to help people reduce or quit smoking — gradually and inexpensively. It is a personalized, very low-cost, web-interactive program, backed up with 25 years of research by Dr. John Martin, and proven successful even with hard-core smokers.

Our program doesn't require you use any expensive prescription pills or patches. In fact, we recommend you read the FDA's recently published health concerns regarding the use of a certain prescription medication often used to help smokers quit. Read a recent article published in Canada about the issue.

SmokeFade uses state-of-the-science techniques to systematically attack and reduce the dependence on nicotine and tobacco, as well as the behavioral and social habit of smoking.

It is a unique smoking treatment intervention that was developed and refined over the past 25 years through research with the toughest smokers to help quit — older military veteran, 2 to 3 pack-a-day smokers of many years, and recovering alcoholics and drug addict smokers. Most programs that were designed to help them quit fairly quickly (cold turkey-based treatments) didn’t really work for them — just too overwhelming and big a step, and maybe too painful or scary for most to consider.

SmokeFade was developed to meet the need for a more gradual, easier and user-friendly kind of quit smoking program. It is a “warm turkey” approach to quitting — it uses 28 gradual, easy steps leading the smoker, step-by-step, on the path to smoking habit disruption and eventual cessation. From the very start the smoker learns to be in control of his or her smoking habit. Dr. Martin’s research on the Smokefade approach has been published in some of the most prestigious scientific journals, and adopted by a number of other smoking cessation institutions. SmokeFade provides an option of cutting and staying back for those who elect not to immediately quit.

Its unique approach incorporates gradual step-downs in nicotine and tar intake, cigarette brands, and the behavioral and social components of the smoking habit. Since the smoking habit and dependence developed gradually, it makes sense to decrease it gradually as well, so that the non-smoking ‘muscles’ can be progressively strengthened to ultimately support the non-smoking lifestyle that smokers desire. In the meantime, those successful cut-backers and quitters can gain control over their smoking which may lead to reduction of the risk of heart and lung disease and perhaps even cancer (since smoking risk is a dose-response or exposure-based effect).

Because social support has been found to be critical to the success of this kind of behavior and habit change, we have added at no cost to you the Smoke-Buddy program to support and encourage you in successfully following the program.
